Lan Tung
Lan Tung draws inspiration from Chinese music and incorporates influences from contemporary music, creative improvisation, and various ethnic styles. She is the artistic director of Sound of Dragon Music Festival, Sound of Dragon Ensemble, and Orchid Ensemble; and Proliferasian performs her music written for improvisers. Lan was a soloist/composer with Orchestre Metropolitain, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Turning Point Ensemble, Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra, Atlas Ensemble, Symphony Nova Scotia, Upstream Ensemble, and Little Giant Chinese Chamber Orchestra. Having toured extensively internationally, Lan’s CDs From A Dream, Life Death Tears Dream, Birds of Paradox, Road to Kashgar, Heartland, and Tandava won an Independent Music Awards and have nominations by the JUNO, Canadian Independent Music Awards, and Western Canadian Music Awards. Lan studied graphic score with Barry Guy, improvisation with Mary Oliver, Hindustani music with Kala Ramnath, Uyghur music with Abdukerim Osman, Mongolian horsehead fiddle with Bayar, and majored on erhu performance at Taiwan’s Chinese Cultural University.
